Acid Survivors Foundation
According to the organization, in Bangladesh, acid burns constitute nine percent of the total burn injuries. Yet many of us still do not know what acid violence is. According to several sources including the Acid Survivors Foundation, acid (nitric or sulphuric acid) attacks usually “occur when men want to take revenge for the refusal of proposals for sex or marriage, or when demands for dowry are not met or when there is a political clash.” Many times, young, beautiful women are targeted so that her appearance is brutally disfigured.

Acid violence is not only physically damaging, it is detrimental both socially and physiologically. Many victims are socially ostracized. The act is cruel and for most, an unimaginable form of violence. Many have recognized the abhorrence of acid violence and have been extremely dedicated to the cause of fighting to eliminate acid violence.

Acid violence ranks amongst the most devastating crimes in our country, leaving the victims literally scarred for life. As we turn a blind eye to the shattered lives of the women, children and men survivors. The PB Philanthropy has united with the Acid Survivors Foundation in an effort to spread awareness of these heinous acts through the youth of the nation and hopefully inspire a new generation to end acid violence once and for all.

Flooding
Bangladesh is a low-lying country, vulnerable to flooding and cyclones. According to experts, it stands to be badly affected by predicted rises in sea levels. Flooding seems very much an inevitable aspect of Bangladesh and Bangladesh's seasonal patterns. Therefore, many of us are ignorant about why floods occur and what effects they have on our country. Floods and flooding and its consequences are more complicated than we often comprehend, especially for the poor. One reason PB Philanthropy has decided to help flood relief is to educate people about flooding and to remind them that brushing it off, as an inevitable aspect of our lives is not acceptable.

Flooding can occur due to river overflow or surface runoff. There are two types of floods which occur in Bangladesh: annual floods (barsha) that inundate up to 20% of the land area and low frequency floods of high magnitude that inundate more than 35% of the area (bonna). While the annual floods are essential and desirable for overall growth of the Bangladesh delta and the economy, the major floods are destructive and take many lives. When floods do occur, we need to be prepared to act and to help those who are affected. Even before these damaging floods ravage our nation, we can take preventative steps.
