July 5th, 2005 On July 5th, 2005, The Project Bangladesh Foundation made its first donation of Tk. One Lakh to the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF). Project Bangladesh's first initiative is the “AMRA BANGLADESH” wristbands which were created by the organization to raise awareness amongst Bangladeshis worldwide to tackle issues such as acid violence, flood devastation and orphans. The five founding members of the group are Nicole Mendes, Navine Mendes, Rafaan Seraj, Shayaan Seraj, and Salman Khan. Along with raising awareness, these green and red bands were made to increase patriotism. All proceeds are for charity. The donation of Tk. One Lakh to the Acid Survivors Foundation included several items that the Foundation needed for its medical unit. Some of the items included a microwave oven for the operation ward, a water fountain for the patients, various types of surgical tools for the operation theatre, bed sheets and towels for all patients, surgical trolleys for the hospital, medical textbooks for the doctors, Povisep ointment for the patients, and furniture for the examination room. Project Bangladesh members were fortunate to meet the patients and staff of the Acid Survivors Foundation. Anita Bell, who is on the Medical Advisory Board of the ASF, spoke about the Foundation and its work. Project Bangladesh member Shayaan Seraj said, “We are encouraging everyone, especially the youth, to come forward to address issues such as acid violence, as many do not even know this crime exists.” That is why Project Bangladesh wants everyone to get involved.
